100 Rogues Returns!

About

100 Rogues is a Traditional Roguelike in the vein of Nethack, Desktop Dungeons or the original Rogue. What sets 100 Rogues apart is its emphasis on tactical abilities and RPG skill progression to create strategic gameplay. Each of our 4 main player classes has a suite of custom abilities, from the Crusader’s buffs and debuffs, to the Wizard’s massive damage spells, to the Scoundrel’s speedy ways to get extra turn. Also, the Bruiser can become a dinosaur! Wow!

  • 4 Player classes: The Zealous Crusader, the Esoteric Wizard, the Slippery Scoundrel and the Brutal Bruiser

  • Dozens of unique abilities to master! Specialize the Scoundrel in Ranged abilities or build a Bruiser around farming and eating as much equipment as possible to grow stronger. Discover odd synergies and tailor your playstyle with each class to your preference.

  • 3+ Worlds: Crawling through the dungeons will bring you through 3 distinct biomes, with one or two secret areas to discover as you learn the depths of the world’s secrets

  • Hundreds of unique items: procedural modifications provide countless possible items to discover each run through the dungeons

The Story So Far

100 Rogues was first released in 2010 for the iPhone 3G. Yeah. The game’s 3-month schedule quickly ballooned to 15 months of development for a rocky initial release, but overall stellar reviews! ( https://www.metacritic.com/game/100-rogues/ )

For the next year and a half, we nearly doubled the amount of content in the game while improving code quality, introducing 2 additional player classes, new game modes, items, and an entire new world for players to explore: Hell.

But in that time, the mobile games landscape drastically shifted. Objective-C, Apple’s proprietary language, made an Android port all but impossible.

So, we remade everything. For an android device called an Ouya. Yeah.

By the mid 2010s, indie game development was a vastly different beast than it was in 2010. Unity had emerged as a clear powerhouse in portability, our original game engine was all but abandoned, and indie developers were capitalizing on their opportunities in a big, big way. But we never forgot our game, and it seems like our fans didn’t either! In roguelike forums and social media, the name keeps coming up. It took almost 15 years, but circumstances have lined up to remake the game a third and hopefully final time.

So now, we’re remaking everything, again!

On Steam. Yeah!

Launch Plans

The game reached Feature Complete status in August 2025. 6 months of Quality Assurance and polish are to follow, but expect a demo to be available on Steam this fall.

As we continue testing in preparation for release, we have an eye towards our first update! Extending the game in new directions will require a lot of new art, and we will be looking at crowdfunding to make it happen.
